  1. Why Twitter is The Most Powerful App in the World - Betting on Yourself

Good morning and happy Tuesday (Super bowl Monday is a holiday in my mind) - let's get smarter

Why Twitter is The Most Powerful App in the World - Betting on Yourself

In this newsletter, I talk a lot about various financial topics to try and share knowledge that I have gained and to hopefully help bring your financial literacy up a few notches

I blab about interest rates, the fed printing money, analyzing Allbirds, analyzing investment opportunities, etc

But over the past few years and especially the past few months, I have realized the power of investing in yourself/your brand, specialized knowledge, and the monetary returns this can bring and I think it's one of the most important concepts I haven't covered

Insert Twitter

Twitter has long been my favorite app on my phone

Why?

As opposed to seeing relationships or photos of people I haven't talked to since middle school on Facebook or girls in bikinis or sports videos on Instagram, my Twitter is 99% content from people sharing specialized knowledge

Knowledge in their niche from their experiences

You have people on Twitter who have done various things in life or business that are 3-30 steps ahead of you sharing their lessons learned, failures, and successes

If you have a twitter, you know that there are quite a few anonymous accounts with very big followings in a specific niche

Strip Mall Guy

Car Dealership Guy

The Luxury Watch Guy

All of these accounts are run by people who are experts in a particular industry and who have built huge followings because of their specialized knowledge

StripMallGuy has a real estate investment fund and has brought on very well known investors simply by sharing his knowledge on real estate being an anonymous account

I can't put an exact dollar figure on it but I'd guess he has made $3-5 million on the low end just by sharing information about his work on Twitter and getting new investors or new deals

Think about the return on this

Maybe he spends 2-3 hours a week on content for his Twitter

Writing posts, writing longer threads, answering DMS, responding to comments

Quick public math: 3 hours a week x 52 weeks = 156 hours

156 hours / 24 hours in a day = 6.5 days

Think about how many hours a day you spend on Netflix, Instagram, watching sports

Now -> StripMallGuy started his Twitter in June of 2021

So let's just say he's spent 6.5 day x 1.5 years or 9.75 days and 234 hours on Twitter content

Now let's assume Twitter has generated him $10m in investment money that he has generated $2m profit personally on (carried interest 2/20 that I have spoken about with investment funds)

That means he has generated $8,547/hour or $205,128 a day

How many jobs or investment opportunities can offer that type of return on time/investment?

So what you are probably thinking is well so what, he has an investment fund and I don't, he has 155,000 followers and I don't, so how could I possibly do that?

The answer is creating and sharing content on a specific topic that you are either an expert in or learning about

You don't have to be an "expert" in any true sense

You can just share your journey as you learn or invest in stocks, or maybe you own a plumbing business and want to share how you have scaled operations

You really only have to be 1 step ahead of the people you are teaching to help them get value

What makes this so powerful is that you are putting out content about a particular subject to the entire world that helps position you as an authority figure to all of the world on a particular subject

My story with Twitter and the internet overall proves just about anyone can do this

A few months ago, I decided to start sharing more about finance, investing, money, accounting, on Twitter myself

Am I the world's most authoritative figure on finance?

Hell no

I studied finance in college and got a few degrees and have worked in finance for over 5 years

I love finance, and spend probably 60-70 hours a week reading, researching, sharing, information about it

I make mistakes every day, and I learn new things every single day that help me improve

I had an account as of about 6 months ago with probably 250 followers

Today, after sharing valuable knowledge of real world things I am working on, I just crossed the 3,000 follower mark - quite far from StripMallGuy's 155,000 followers

Through Twitter, networking, and providing various people, business owners, founders, value on my area of expertise, finance, here are some of the crazy things that have happened

A few weeks ago, I left the east coast and moved across the country to Scottsdale

Why? Someone I met on the internet saw my finance knowledge had value and he wanted to collaborate on various investments and thought it would great if I was out in AZ

I have been able to invest in amazing private deals through this connect who for 3 years I had never ONCE met in person

My network and networth continue to scale because I am in a room with him and now get into bigger rooms with him

Twitter has allowed me to start a software + service business that is around $30k in MRR (monthly recurring revenue), with another $25-50k in the pipeline

Twitter has allowed me to meet with large entrepreneurs who now are interest in working me this business because they follow me on Twitter

Twitter has allowed me to meet with a venture capital firm who wanted to learn more about my startup

Twitter generates 60% of my leads right now, and the other come through word of mouth from clients by just delivering value in my specialized area of knowledge

2 days ago I went to dinner with the founders of one of the fastest growing restaurant concepts in the US

Last night I got invited to a private auction with athletes and billionaires

I am working on a hospitality investment with a billionaire architect and self-made operator all because of "what they have heard" about my knowledge in finance

Yesterday, one of the top plastic surgeons in the US texted me about working with their practice

I now have a personal coach who works with CEOs and athletes, all because of someone who I have met in person twice referring me

Next week, I have a mastermind meeting with 3 other CFO's from Twitter, none of which I have met in person

Learning, sharing ideas, sharing opportunities to do business, from Twitter and the freakin internet

Every single day, I get to connect with people doing amazing things in life and business, people who are MASTERS at their craft, and get to learn and work with them

This is 0% to brag in any way

I am the smallest fish in every room I go into

I am so far away from where I want to be

But do you see how crazy this is?

This is from 6 MONTHS of posting on Twitter

I can't imagine what this could transform into in another 6 months or 6 years

No matter what your goals are, big or small, think about what 1 new big connect could do for you?

Maybe a side hustle that makes $3k a month

Or investing in a real estate project that passively pays you $1k a month

Or meeting a big company that you can do a sale with and hit your quota

The possibilities are literally endless if you share value and connect with as many people as possible

Build knowledge on a subject, share your knowledge with people, ask them about their craft, see how you can be of value to them

Do work for free

Ask for referrals

I promise you that no crypto or stock can generate the returns like building your personal brand can

And you can literally do it just by posting consistently valuable content on freakin Twitter

So why not you?
